FUTURARC 2019 PRIZE, MERIT AWARD

Conducted by BCI Asia Awards, FuturArc Prize is an annual competition that seeks forward-thinking, innovative design ideas for Asia. The competition theme for 2019 was HYPERDENSITY, ASIA- a formal investigation to create a hyper-dense city in Asia, one with no less than 100,000 people on a 1 sq.km site. The envisioned city should have at least 2.5 million sqm of built-up area: a self-sustaining urban eco-system.

SÎLO: The Syndetic Urban Network, aims to create a hyper-dense city rooted on the principles of agriculture - harnessing its potential in creating a sustainable urban intervention. “Silo” is the Filipino translation of the word “Loop”. In relation, “Silo” is the English term for any structure that stores agricultural goods. Driven by the pursuit to cultivate the importance of agriculture in the sustainability of future cities, SÎLO would harness this to its core.

Located at the junction of the cities of Makati and Manila (San Andres Bukid and La Paz), the new city of SÎLO would serve multiple goals through the new ecological systems born within. Sustainable development goals of infrastructure, agriculture, and technology would improve quality of life and well-being of the residents of this new urban development.

The city would be driven by inclusivity, accessibility, adaptability, replication, and the pursuit of an URBAN AESTHETIC that can progress alongside contemporary living.
