VILLA 4
MATERIAL INTERVENTION CREATES A NEW DIRECTION
TYPOLOGY     HOSPITALITY
LOCATION       CALAMBA, LAGUNA, PHILIPPINES;
YEAR                   2017

VILLA 4 explores the limits of materiality and space as it breathes new life into an existing resort villa. An extension of the Casa Tropica Resort, it continues the resort complex’s architectural language in its response to climatic context and interpretation of a tropical aesthetic, as well as its volumetric treatment of built elements.

Its expansive frontage allowed the opportunity to create a unique perforated wooden screen that defines the facade, and provides shade and privacy to the interior spaces. Wood accents and cladding are added to the columns, railing, and gates to add a feel of warmth and softness to the bare concrete structure.

Open spaces that permeate through and extend from the structure were programmed for rest and recreation, allowing its users to roam around freely and feel more relaxed. Guests are also treated to views within the resort, and the glorious Mount Makiling in the landscapes beyond.

VILLA 4 becomes an example of creating design possibilities that were never thought of, out of an existing venue.
